Lucky for you, YOU CAN.

What to Know Before Cleaning a Newsboy Cap?

Imagine this. When you love something a lot, you’ll want to know everything about it, right? And we know you love your newsboy cap; otherwise, you wouldn’t even bother searching for this article. Now that you’re here, we want to give you few tips that you must keep in mind before splashing water on your newsboy caps!

1. Read the Care Label

A care label needs no introduction, does it? But how many of you actually take time to read it? Surprisingly, most people, including you and us, ignore this tiny label when it holds such priceless information! So, make sure you don’t miss out on reading it before washing.

2. Know the Material

Yes, we know this information is already there on the label, but it still helps to know what your newsboy cap is made out of. If it’s leather, you’ll right away know that you can’t wash it in a machine.

3. SAY NO to Dryers

Most of us can never resist the temptation to use a dryer to dry our hats the quickest way. But what’s better – Fast and damaged or slow and perfect? We think you’d want to go with the latter option in case of your newsboy caps—only air-dry them.

4. Wash a White Newsboy Hat Along with Whites

If you plan to machine-wash your newsboy hats, always ensure that you wash them with similar colored clothes. You don’t want the hat to bleed into other clothes and vice versa.

5. Always Do a Spot Test

A spot test is used to check colorfastness. Irrespective of the washing method suggested in the care label, always do a spot test to see if your hat bleeds any dye or not.

It’s the easiest thing to do. Dampen a clean white cloth in a mild soap solution. Gently rub the cloth on your hat. If any dye transfers to the white cloth, it means the hat is giving off colors, and you need to stop at this stage. If there is no color bleed, you can go ahead with the suggested washing method.

Spot Test and Reading the Care Label.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Cleaning Solution

In a bowl filled with water, add a small amount of mild laundry detergent. Mix them well so that the soap is spread uniformly in the water.

Step 2: Scrub the Stains

Dip a clean cloth or cotton shirt (preferably of the same color as the hat) in the cleaning solution. Dab it onto the stained areas of your hat. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, scrub away the stains gently.

Step 3: Wipe Away Residual Soap and Dirt

Once the stains are removed, use a clean towel to wipe away all the left-over soap and dirt from the surface of the hat. If the stain persists, repeat step 2.

Step 4: Dry the Hat

Find a spot with good air circulation and air-dry your hat. Ensure its drying away from direct sunlight.

How to Hand-Wash a Newsboy Hat

How to Hand-Wash a Newsboy Hat?

If you are unsuccessful with a quick wash, your stains are smarter than you. So, you’ll need to get smarter than them, don’t you? Let’s try the good old hand-washing method.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Cleaning Solution

In a bucket, sink, or tub, fill cool or lukewarm water. Add a small amount of mild detergent or few drops of liquid. Mix them well.

Step 2: Soak the Hat in Cleaning Solution

Soak your newsboy hat in the cleaning solution for about 20 minutes or more, depending on how dirty the hat is.

Step 3: Submerge the Hat in the Cleaning Solution

Once the 20 minutes or more is up, agitate the hat in the cleaning solution for about a minute. Do not go all crazy with the hat, do it in a way to not damage the fabric!

Step 4: Rinse the Hat

Once the stains are gone, rinse your hat under cool running water. Never use hot water, for it can shrink the fabric.

Step 5: Dry the Hat

Like we always say, only air-dry your hats. You can also do it the cool way. Get a mannequin head and place the hat on it to dry.

How to Wash a Newsboy Hat in Washing Machine

How to Wash a Newsboy Hat in Washing Machine?

Effortless. No physical labor. These are the advantages a washing machine gives. So, if your label greenlights an okay for a machine wash, you can go ahead and do it this way.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

Step 1: Pre-treat the Stains

Apply a small amount of the stain remover on specific stain areas. Leave it for about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the amount of staining.

Pre-treating is important because it removes the stains better and saves a lot of time, detergent, and energy. And if you are someone who owns a top-loading machine, you’d really want to consider saving a bit of energy for sure, alright!

Step 2: Place the Hat in Mesh Bag (optional)

If you are washing your hat on its own in the machine, you’d want to keep it in a mesh bag first and then put it inside a machine. It will protect the hat from all the whirling and spinning that happens inside the machine.

A mesh bag is an optional choice. You can also put your hat with general laundry, but with SIMILAR COLORED CLOTHING.

Step 3: Set Your Machine Controls

Set your machine’s cycle to a delicate mode and use only cool water.

Step 4: Dry the Hat

Once the cycle is over, take out your hat. RESIST THE URGE to tumble dry the hat. Air-dry your hats away from sunlight.

Can You Wash a Newsboy Cap in Dishwasher?

We don’t think you should.

The extreme heat setting of a dishwasher can be a little overwhelming for our newsboy caps.

There are caps, like the baseball, that can be washed in a dishwasher with a hat cage, but our newsboy caps are not of that built. So, it’s better if you avoid using them. And why would you need them? We have already shown you the safest and easiest ways to clean your newsboy hats!

How to Wash a Wool Newsboy Cap?

Now now, we all know how wool is. Delicate and fragile. If you own a wool newsboy cap by any chance, you’ve got to be EXTRA EXTRA careful.

The first thing to understand is whether your wool newsboy cap permits a hand-wash or both hand and machine-wash. But a hand-wash is always the better-advised method for wools!

Often, wool newsboy caps can be washed in the machine, but make sure your machine setting is delicate and use cold water only. Hot water will shrink the wool.

The methods are almost the same as normal newsboy caps that we discussed above, the only major difference being detergent. Don’t just use any mild detergent; choose something specifically made for washing wool like a Woolite.

How to Get Sweat Stains Out of a Newsboy Cap?

Now, a newsboy is an all-season cap. And hence the chances are high that by the time you take them for a wash, they are extremely dirty. The biggest nightmare for all of us is definitely the sweat stains, is there any escape from them?

Unfortunately, NO. The maximum you can do is to get sweat liners or place paper tissues or napkins.

If there are already sweat stains on your newsboy hats, we have two golden solutions to remove them.

1. Use Baking Soda

Add a tablespoon of baking soda to a cup of warm water. Dab a clean cloth in this baking soda paste and apply it to the stained areas. Gently scrub them away.

2. Use Distilled White Vinegar

Mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth in it and dab it on the stained areas of the hat. In the case of sweatbands, apply vinegar directly. But be careful of the amount you use because vinegar, being acidic, will damage the fabric if used too much.

Can You Change the Shape of the Newsboy Hat After Washing?

If your newsboy hat has caught the rain or is out of shape for some reason, do not panic. That’s the first thing to do. Take a deep breath.

YOU CAN RETAIN THE SHAPE OF YOUR HAT WHILE IT’S STILL WET. While it’s still damp, use your hands and fix the shape.

But if your cap dries before you could fix it, it won’t be easy to retain the shape again.

How to Care for a Newsboy Cap?

1. Storing the Hat

It would be best if you got a hatbox. It’s the best way to store your hats if you want to use them for a really long time.

2. Brush Your Hat After Each Use

Your hats get real dirty when you allow all the dust and grime to get accumulated. If you brush your hat after each use, the chances of getting extremely dirty will reduce, and washing will be easier. You can get a good soft brush to do this simple job for you!

3. Keep the Hats in a Dry and Clean Place

No, beds, tables, or even car seats aren’t the places to leave your hat. When not in use, you need to get them in a good and clean place.
