A Boater Hat is a legendary hat that the gondoliers wore in Venice. At that time, a ribbon hanged from it at the back. The Boater hat’s key feature is that it is made from Sennit Straw and has a flat and shallow crown. The typical decoration of the boater hat is the two-colored striped grosgrain ribbon with a bow. All these features need to be present together for a hat to be called a Boater hat; if even one is missing, you can’t call it that.

Boater hats are appropriate for hot and sunny weather because they are extremely breathable and lightweight. Further, they are worn on Straw Hat Day to welcome summers and marking the end of winters.
