A Leghorn hat is a straw hat made from the straw of a specific variety of Italian wheat. The straws are woven into a fabric and then made into a hat. The shape of a leghorn hat may vary; however, it has a flat crown and is stiff in construction. Therefore, it cannot be folded. As it is made from straw, it is breathable and works best in summers.
Even though it is a straw hat, it doesn’t need to be a casual hat only. It can be decorated with folds of muslin and taffeta ribbons, bows, and flowers to make it more decorated and worthy of wearing on formal occasions.
