A mobcap was a pleated cloth shaped in the form of a round bonnet. It was worn over a caul and stabilized in its place with a ribbon. It had a frilled brim and was worn by married women in the Georgian period.

The caul had a drawstring that was used to tighten the cap to the wearer’s neck and also covered the ears. Initially, Mobcap was worn in the country, but it soon gained popularity in the urban areas and became a fashion accessory. However, it was worn indoors, and therefore, it was worn under a hat when the wearer went outdoors.
