Biretta is the clergy hat. It is a square-shaped cap with three or four peaks and an optional surmounted tuft. The clergy wear the three-peaked one, and the four-peaked one is worn as part of an academic uniform. In some countries, Biretta is also worn by lawyers.

Birettas have different color coding for clergies of different ranks. These are often made of silk. Some Birettas also have a pompom at the top. Birettas have become less popular among the wearers; however, the use has not faded away totally.
