A mariner’s cap is very similar to a Mao cap or a Breton cap. It has a soft, unstructured crown with a flat top and a short, stiff visor. The most common color for this cap is blue or navy blue, and therefore, it is made from blue wool, felt, corduroy or denim. It is associated with sailors and ship captains as work-wear or used in fishing, sailing, yachting as part of recreational activities.

Mariner’s cap is a symbol of Proletarian and therefore used by left-wing politicians all over the world. Some of its variations have been adorned by Lenin and Mao in their own countries to represent solidarity with the working class. It was also adorned by the famous Beatles singer John Lennon during the 1960s.
