Kuma is a traditional, cylindrical flat-top cap worn by Omani men. The rim is folded inwards. The cap is extremely breathable as it has small pinholes all over for air circulation. It is appropriate for hot weather and countries where the sun shines strongly. Kuma is made to fit the wearer’s head and therefore is a customized cap.

Kuma is similar to Kofia and is said to have originated in Zanzibar. Kuma is worn regularly in Oman because the population is very proud of its cultural heritage. Also, the Sultan has made it an unofficial rule that traditional garments are worn as a symbol of patriotism. It also helps the local textile producers and the Omani Economy.

Generally, Kuma has a white base with colorful and floral designs and patterns to make them more decorative and appropriate for formal occasions.
