Gat hat is a traditional Korean Men’s hat. It has a bamboo frame and horsehair on it. The crown is long and cylindrical, and the brim is wide. The hat is slightly transparent, so there is a little bit of visibility through the same.

Gat hat is a symbol of nobility, and therefore only the upper-class men could wear it till the 19th century. It is an intricate construction and therefore required specialized and skilled artisans who were known as gatiljang. Now, this form of craft is considered a Korean heritage.

Gats were color-coded. Black Gats were worn by only those who cleared the gwageo exam, white Gat was a mourning hat worn in a funeral, and red was a military uniform party.
