Rasta cap is a crocheted round cap, very similar to a slouchy beret. It is associated with the Jamaican religion, Rastafari. As the cap loosely sits on the head, it is sometimes called a Tam; however, Tam is a completely different style of hat.
Although the most common manufacturing technique for a Rastacap is crochet, the cap is sometimes knitted, woven, or sewn also. These techniques generally use warmer fabrics, and therefore, Rastacaps are great as winter-protectors.
Rasta cap can have other shapes also, but most times, the cap is made from different colored yarns, which give it its characteristic colorful striped look on a black base. It is a great cap for people with dreadlocks but can be worn by others also.
