Coonskin Cap is a hat made from raccoon’s skin and fur. They are Native American hats that people later adopted at large in the US, Canada, UK & Australia. These were mostly worn by frontiersmen but also worn by civilians too.
The hat has evolved with time. Initially, the hat comprised the entire raccoon’s body, including its head and tail. However, later on, it was a rounded cap that fitted the head with a tail at the back. As it is made from animal fur and skin, it is better for colder weather.
It is also great to camouflage wear because it can be easily thought of like a raccoon by the enemy.
