Capirote is a conical or a pointed hat popular in Spain. It not only covers the heads, but it also covers the face with cloth hanging down till the waist. The part that covers the face has two holes for the eyes.

Although part of many religious sects in Spain and worn on Easter along with the traditional robe, it was adopted by a white supremacist group in America and had since then become a symbol of racial hatred.

It was also used as a symbol of public humiliation and can be worn by both men and women. The colors signify allegiance to different religious groups. There is often an insignia of the group on the part that covers the chest.
